Exciting news! I’ve been busy developing a new USB-C speed controller, and it plugs straight into modern phones – it really is a game changer. Now you will be able to power your LOFI stove on the trail without the need for bringing a heavy battery pack with you .
In tests the LOFI uses just 1% battery to power the stove for long enough to boil 500ml (2 cups) of water. The cable will be available as soon as I can get it manufactured, the factory is currently making up the tooling moulds. I’ve taken user advice and gone for more cable length, the new cables will be 50cm long (twice as long as the original) and weighing just 4 grams more.

This sounds like a great development. Looking forward to seeing it when available
Thanks Andy,
It feels like a real leap forwards for the stove, I can’t wait to get them in the shop 🙂

You literally could have just started including a £1.50 USB-C to USB-A ‘OTG’ adaptor (linked below) in your future kits instead of having a new cable manufactured:

Hey Brendon,
Thanks for the message. It’s been quite a long journey… I did start with using these adaptors, and although the OTG adaptors can work, in this case, they do break official USB protocol when connected to an additional USB-C plug. This unfortunately means that they will not reliably work with all devices, as they do not allow the device providing power to communicate correctly to the device that it is powering. This communication is important (and sometimes essential) to make sure that devices don’t try and draw too much power down an underspecified cable, or equally over volt a device that isn’t able to handle it.
These new cables have an additional communication wire, unique to USB-C that allows the power supply (phone in this case) to know what it is connected to. Feel free to use the OTG adaptors though if it’s working with your battery pack.
Cheers,
Jonny
Does the new stoves come with usb-c cable or do you have to buy it separately?

Hi Niko,
All LOFI Mk1.1 stoves ship with the USB-A cable.
Thanks,
